Gtechniq – Car Cleaning for New Drivers

If you’ve passed your driving test or have bought your first car, congratulations are in order! You can now get behind the wheel of your car and explore the open road.

As you make your way from location to location, however, you’ll begin to notice that having a clean takes some upkeep and general maintenance, but what does this entail? Here’s our handy guide to making sure your car looks as good as possible.

Steps to Take to Clean Your Car’s Exterior

First of all, park your car in a shaded area that is close to a water source, like a hose that will reach your home, for instance. Parking your car in the sun means that the products you apply to it might not work optimally due to exposure to UV rays.

You’ll need a few products to get started; although others do it differently, for strong results we suggest two buckets filled with warm water, a hose connected to a water source, a cleaning formula for your car and tyre trims, a glass cleaner, two clean and dry microfibre towels, and three microfibre washcloths.

To begin with, hose down your car all over to remove any superficial dirt that isn’t stubborn enough to linger on your vehicle, ensuring you get every area covered. After this, tend to the wheels first – this is because you want to remove the dark grime and dirt so that it doesn’t splash up onto the body afterwards. A lot of people find that using the same product for their wheels and body works well so apply the W2 Multi Purpose Cleaner to a microfibre washcloth and address the dirt before hosing them. There’s no need to dry the tyres because they will get wet from cleaning the body.

Next, pour some GWash formula into a warm bucket of water then soak a microfibre washcloth in it (you should probably wear gloves when performing this). Take the cloth out of the bucket and, in circular motions, clean the dirt from your car’s body starting at the top and then working down. Reapply the cloth if you spot any remaining stubborn dirt on your car.

At this point, you should hose the car down once more then dry both the body and wheels. The final job is to address the windows. Spray the G6 Perfect Glass substance onto the glass and rub the other microfibre washcloth into it, making sure you don’t smudge the glass. You can then dry the windows and the exterior should be clean.

Cleaning Your Car’s Interior

It’s slightly easier to clean the interior but you should first remove any drink cartons or wrappers from the inside. Then get a vacuum cleaner to rid the seats, floor, and mats of any loose dirt and dust.

Determine what material your car seats are – this is important so that you don’t apply the wrong product to leather, for instance, which would need L1 Leather Guard AB. If the material is fabric, instead opt for the I1 Smart Fabric AB. Spray the product on and gently but effectively rub it in to make sure harsher stains are worked on.

Using your C6 Matt Dash AB, clean the dashboard and steering wheel areas to remove particles from there.

Now your job is complete and you can once again take pride as you continue exploring the roads as a new driver.
